ALFAMA

Alfama is one of Lisbon's oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods. It is located between São Jorge Castle and the banks of the Tejo. This neighborhood portrays what we call “portugalidade” - narrow, winding streets, historic buildings, and a rich and active cultural life, particularly with the various Fado Houses.
Alfama is within walking distance of the main business centers of the new Lisbon. It is easily accessible by public transport, including the iconic yellow streetcars that run along the city's steep streets.
This neighborhood is the birthplace of Fado, the melancholic music that is the essence of Portuguese culture. The cultural heritage is evident in the various museums, historical sites and Fado houses, where the music can still be heard late into the night. Don't miss a visit to the Fado Museum or a night of fados in one of the local tavernas to feel the true spirit of Alfama.
The houses in Alfama are a mix of tradition and modernity. The neighborhood offers housing options of different profiles and budgets. You can find everything from typical Portuguese houses to modern, refurbished apartments overlooking the Tagus.
Despite all its history, Alfama is also a place of contemporaneity. Local and international cuisine, independent brand stores are all part of a bustling present in Alfama.
